Checklist for the PhD program within the MGK of the CRC
Month | Task | What do I have to do? |
0 | Employment |
Most PhD students within the CRC 1349 get a regular working contract. After succeeding in the application procedure, the PI applies (in some cases in collaboration with the CRC-office) for your employment and a few weeks later HR contacts you, offering you a working contract and perhaps asking for some additional documents. Important! On your first working day, your PI must send a note that you started working to HR. |
1 | Betreuungsvereinbarung and Application for Doctorate Admission Proceeding |
Together with your principal supervisor, you agree on a topic/title for your PhD project and select a suitable second supervisor (ideally from within the CRC). You fill out a Betreuungsvereinbarung and send a copy to the CRC-office. Then you apply for doctorate admission proceedings at your department.

1 | Registration in the CRC |
The CRC-office sends you a form which you fill out and send back as quickly as possible. The provided data is for example necessary to include your email address into the CRC's email-lists or for reporting statistical data to the DFG. Otherwise, your data will never be forwarded to anyone else. All your information will be deleted, at the latest, after finalizing the final report for the DFG. |
1-3 | Research Plan and Qualification Agreement |
Together with your principal supervisor you set up a research plan and fill out your first qualification agreement. A copy of the latter you send to the CRC-office. |
6, 18, 30 | Progress Report and Development Meetings |
After 6, 18 and 30 months you write a progress report with respect to your research plan and your latest qualification agreement. You and your two supervisors schedule a development meeting and send the date and time to the CRC-office, which will delegate one additional PI from the CRC-board to attend. After you and your supervisors adapt your research plan - if necessary - and set up a new qualification agreement; one copy of each must be sent to the CRC-office. |
1-36 | collecting Credits |
During the first three years of your PhD studies, you need to collect 30 credit points to pass the PhD program. A list with activities, for which you receive credit points is here. All credit points for mandatory activities are counted automatically. To receive credit points for optional activities, send an email with some proof to the CRC-office. |
36 | Certificate |
After three years, you ask the CRC-office for a certificate for successfully passing the PhD program of the CRC. |
36-48 | Finalizing Dissertation, Handing-In and Defence |
Now it's time to finish your dissertation. Please send the final title, the date when you hand in and defend your thesis and your mark to the CRC-office. |
